A US Coast Guard photo taken by PA3 Jacquelyn Zettles in Honolulu Hawaii on November 1, 1999 inspired this painting.
Coast Guard Seaman Brian Grebe (CGC Walnut WLB-205) was offloading a mountain of fishnet from the Coast Guard Cutter Walnut. The Walnut and NOAA vessel Townsend Cromwel joined efforts to remove 57,500 pounds of marine debvis from Lisianski Island, Pearl, and Hermes Reefs and Midway Atoll in the Northwest Hawaiian Islands.
I love so much about this image. Teams of officials are working together to make the planet a better place. Personally, I can't fathom what over 18 tons of debris looks like. I marvel at the fact that it got there. More impressive though is that we took it away. When we work together, we can make good things happen.
