Art is a celebration. Creating art is being in the front row for the parade. As artists, we work hard to learn all the technical stuff, so we can get good enough to relax and enjoy the party.

The fun thing is that the further along we get in our careers, the more we enjoy the party. I'm still early in my career. "Emerging Artist" is what they call artists like me. But frankly, I'm not sure you ever stop emerging or working hard. I'm not sure you ever stop getting good enough to relax and enjoy the party. That's the carrot at the end of the stick that we spend our lifetimes reaching for.

And if you took away the carrot - If you told me I was there, that I'd reached my pinnacle and was as good as I was ever going to get.... Well, I think I would cry, set down my brushes, and run away...far, far away. Working to be a better artist is a lifestyle. Take away that goal to improve, and you take away my lifestyle. I'm not sure what I would do.
