Monumental

Have you ever seen the cherry blossoms in Washington DC? A walk around the tidal basin while they are in bloom is such a fabulous experience. There aren't many restrooms along the route, so it's not for the feint of heart. But I'm so glad we get to do it regularly. The cherry trees were gifted to the USA by Japan after WWII.

The Washington Monument in the background, an Egyptian style obelisk erected to honor America's first elected president, is a symbol of George Washington's contributions to our military and patriotism.

Whenever I see cherry blossoms, I am reminded of how much beauty there is in peace.
