In November of 2022 I was offered an artist residency at sea with the crew of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Stone. I was invited down to the engine room, where I watched the replacement of the engine fuel filters. Everyone knows that space is limited on military vessels. But until I stood there watching them at work, I didn't fully appreciate how nimble and athletic our service men and women need to be, working in very tight spaces to maintain the assets.
