I visited Henry River Village in North Carolina. If you take the tour, you learn about the rich history this textile mill town has. The mill closed in the 1960's, but efforts are underway to restore the buildings on the property. I find it so intriguing to visit the abandoned properties and imagine what conversations, celebrations and consolations happened in these spaces.

There is such beauty, to me, in the peeling paint and falling bricks. I was born in the 60's. This town has been aging at the same rate as me. Both of us have scars, but we are so much more interesting because of them.
