I love to create "single pass" paintings. These are where I do my drawing and underpainting, but then I lay down just one layer of oil paint and call them complete. They are not as tightly rendered as my works where I do five to 13 passes of oil paint layers. But there is a freshness and simplicity about them I find fun.
My friend Carrie Waller is my model for this piece. We were in Kyoto together, dressed up as geisha. Carrie is an amazing watercolor artist, with the most beautiful eyes.
