When I was a teenager, roller skating was one of my favorite activities to do with friends. I got pretty good, or at least I thought I did. I have not roller skated for decades, but about 7 years ago I bought a pair of skates and thought it would be like riding a bike - you never forget. Under orders to avoid high impact jogging, I thought I could just put my roller skating skills to work, and do that low impact thing alongside friends who jog. WRONG! SO wrong. I won't go into details, but after a concussion and several joint injuries, I finally had to admit that those little muscles in the front of my shins that used to allow me to skate in the right direction - they are just spent. They have retired. They refuse to work to allow me safe passage on roller skates ever again.

So, as I age into those things I can no longer consider doing, including ice skating, which I have never tried, I'm painting them instead. I can't ice skate ever. Figures. The figure skating events have always been my favorite in the winter olympics. I will have to live vicariously and safely. BUT, I get to paint these really cool textures and patterns, no matter how old I get. I'm okay with that!
