  This is the linen I use. It is required so please order ahead of time so you

  receive your linen in time for the class. I would recommend purchasing

  enough for several paintings. I would recommend purchasing a sheet of at

  least 24x24”. A 24”x36” sheet should give you a little extra linen for several

  paintings. You may also purchase by the yard if you so desire. Order the

  "CARLO RUSSO PRIMING". This is his finest weave linen which comes

  pre-primed with lead and titanium priming. Tell him I sent you, please.

It's not often that I post things this personal on my blog, but I feel like there may be other artists out there who are experiencing this very same thing. We talk about the power of art, but it wasn't until two weeks ago that I truly understood this power, and that this power is real. 

You see, my dad passed away two weeks ago at the breakfast table. In his peripheral vision, were paintings I did when I was 15, 16, and just last Christmas. My family lives in Michigan, and I live in Virginia. We didn't see each other as much as we would have liked, because of so many reasons. But when someone you love dies, those reasons don't seem important anymore.

I went to my father's funeral expecting to be overwhelmed with regrets for not visiting more often. Instead, when I entered the house he'd been in for a little over a year, I was overwhelmed by the fact that he could not look anywhere in that home, which had become his whole world at the end, without seeing a bit of me in it, through my artwork.  Here I was missing him and the whole time I was right there with him.

Extending this thought, I was moved to remember all the wonderful relationships art has brought to me in my life. My galleries, my peers, my friends - All of these connections are through the power of art. The Women. Artists. Mentors. (WAM - Artists Packing a Punch) group I'm going to Venice with in a few weeks, is a perfect example of how powerful art is. Here is a Bored Panda post I wrote about 0ur past and future endeavors.

So I thought I'd remind everyone, whether you are an artist or a collector. Don't ever underestimate the power of art. I did.
