What is Giclée? It all depends on who you ask. Most people define "giclée" as a reproduction from a printer which uses 6 or more archival inks that apply the ink in a fine spray. The inks are estimated to remain unchanged for 25 to 200 years.  Because they have only been on the market for a few years, the 200 year longevity has not actually been tested.

Since the "giclée" printers use 6 or more inks, they typically have a much wider color range, so they are able to more accurately reproduce images than standard inkjet printers.  Having this additional color depth gives "giclée" printers a significant advantage over 4-color printers.
